Wigan Warriors – Salford Red Devils Match Prediction | 05-10-2019 14:45

Williams may have made a slow start to the season but his finest performance in Super League this year did come against Salford back in March. He has 10 tries to his name as well as 12 try assists, which includes contributing to five tries against the Red Devils this season and now looks back to his very best as he looks to propel Wigan into the top four.

If that is to be the case, Wigan will take some beating having conceded an average of just 10.5 points in their last four games and they have also won their last seven matches at the DW Stadium. The two form teams in Super League go head-to-head for the right to meet St. Helens next week. It will not be the end of the road for the loser but a win would put them on the right path to the Grand Final and with so much at stake, a low-scoring game could be on the cards with defences on top.

Luis departure could impact the fluidity of Salfords play and with Wigan returning to their best form in recent weeks, the Warriors could edge out the Red Devils for the third time this season. This is a tough game to predict, given the closeness of the previous two meetings between the sides this season. Level on points in the table and with both sides having won their recent fixtures, it should be a cracker at the DW Stadium on Friday night. Wigan to win by seven points.

Ian Watsons side will be looking recapture their earlier form and are fully aware theyre still in with a real shot of making the top four as they sit just two points behind Wakefield in 4th and one point behind Saints in 5th with both teams still left to play. Salford have had a slow start to the Super 8s losing their opening two games but have entered the final stage of the season on the back of their highest Super League finish ever.

Salford 12

The Warriors have enjoyed a mini resurgence in recent weeks after picking three victories on the spin for just the second time this season. They were 38-22 winners last time out against Huddersfield Giants, with club captain Sean OLoughlin rolling back the years after putting in a superb display at the John Smiths Stadium. They have already beaten the Red Devils twice this season, both in close encounters, and another win on Friday night will see them leapfrog Salford and could move as high as fourth in the Super League table.

As a neutral it would be great for a smaller club such as Salford to make it through to the Grand Final and with many of their players leaving come the end of the season, this could be their last chance for some time but in a match such as this, experience often counts and that is where the Warriors have the edge.

Everyone is buying into the way we want to defend, which is a little different to last year. You can see that there is a lot of energy, particularly in our defence which has been key at this Club. Im just really pleased with our attitude at the moment.

Its been a tough season for Shaun Wanes men but they know if they can string together a handful of wins in the coming weeks it could turn out to be another fruitful season for the Warriors. Wigan have had a mixed start to their Super 8s campaign losing to Leeds on the opening weekend but they managed to return to winning ways this past weekend with a 18-4 victory over Huddersfield.

Pay on the gate will also be available on matchday on the East and South Stands. Fans wanting to buy tickets for the West Stand must go to the General Ticket Office. Please note: we advise fans who are planning to pay on the day to arrive at the DW Stadium in plenty of time for kick-off as queues are expected.

MATCH PREVIEW | St Helens vs Wigan Warriors

The Warriors beat Salford on the opening weekend of the season at the AJ Bell Stadium racing into a 20-0 lead at half-time with tries from Joe Burgess, George Williams, Joel Tomkins and an Oliver Gildart brace. The Red Devils attempted to fight back with tries from Kriss Brining, Junior Sau and Michael Dobson but they left themselves with too much to do.

If he brings his A game to the DW Stadium on Friday night, he will be difficult to stop. The Australian has been a revelation at the club since arriving back in July 2018 and also has the most carries of any player in Super League, with 342, and is currently second in the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel standings. His opposite number Hastings currently tops the try assists chart with 22 assists in just 19 Super League appearances this season, which includes assisting at least two tries in each of his last four games.
